But Really How Healthy Is Taco Bell
Bottom line: Taco Bell is still fast food and isnt as healthy as preparing a meal in the comfort of your own home.
A research review showed that eating fast food more than once a week could increase your risk of obesity. And bumping it up to 2 times a week could lead to metabolic syndrome, type 2 diabetes, and coronary heart disease.
The reasons behind fast food health risks is likely due to:
- Saturated fat.Saturated fat is typically found in animal foods such as meat, milk, and cheese. A research review showed that cutting back can help to reduce cardiovascular disease by 17 percent.
- Sugar. Sugars usually found in the desserts and drinks on a fast food menu. But sugar can sneak into entrees . According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a diet high in added sugars can lead to health conditions like as type 2 diabetes, obesity, and heart disease.
- Sodium. A study found fast food entrees had a 4.6-percent increase in total sodium content in the last 30 years. Too much sodium can lead to high blood pressure, which puts you at risk for heart disease and stroke.
- Low quality ingredients. Besides the fresh vegetables, Taco Bell ingredients tend to contain food additives and are highly processed to provide a tasty meal at a low cost.
Although too much fast food can negatively impact your health, cruising through the drive-thru every so often is totally fine in moderation. Live your live and eat the tacos .

What do healthier choices mean? Lets first consider that healthier and low-calorie labels do not necessarily mean healthier. The problem you find with meals and foods labeled healthy or low-calorie is that they are high in sodium or sugar. I am sorry to burst your balloon. It is true. However, you can find healthy options among those mouth-watering delicious unhealthy ones on the menu tempting your choices at Taco Bell.
Is Taco Bell High In Sodium
Despite Taco Bell having some low sodium options, I would consider Taco Bell to be high in sodium because the majority of their menu items have a lot of salt and are not easily customizable for those requiring a low sodium diet.
That doesnt mean you cant eat at taco bell on a low-sodium diet. It just means you need to be more mindful of your choices and that your options will be limited.

How Does Taco Bell’s Cheesy Roll
At first glance, it didn’t look particularly appetizing and slightly resembled an quesadilla that was run over in the Taco Bell parking lot. There was immediate disappointment when unwrapping the roll-up similar to opening socks instead of a PlayStation on Christmas Day. It’s like we wanted there to be more than expected like a secret sauce or an epic cheese pull fit for any Instagram boomerang.
But alas, disappointment was the leading flavor profile of the cheesy roll-up. It tasted exactly like described, tortilla and cheese, with nothing more or less at least it was halfway warm. There was a light coating of cheese, just enough to be gluey in your mouth and in need for a Mountain Dew Baja Blast. It’s actually almost hard to write about how it tasted since there was so little there to critique. At least if it was disgusting, we would be able to write a book’s worth of insults and metaphors comparing it to food you wouldn’t even feel comfortable serving on death row.
However, it was strangely comforting and what you would imagine as your first Taco Bell order as a baby or cheese-crazed toddler. However, growing up to be a verbose journalist, the lack of substance wasn’t filling or fulfilling but instead resulted in just lactose-induced cramps and one extra pimple the day after.

Technically the Nachos BellGrande are higher in calories, but those eat much more like a meal than a side.
Nacho Fries are back, baby! It seems that Taco Bell will forever be rotating Nacho Fries on and off the menu, but at the time of writing this, theyre back on the menu and deserve a shoutout.
Much like French fries at most fast-food restaurants, the amount of fries you receive is going to vary greatly. Consider these calories an estimate- and the same applies to the side of nachos, too.
If your server is in a good mood, you may get a much more generous serving on any given day, so the calories may be a bit higher.
I included bowls in this section because they didnt fit in anywhere else, but they are the closest thing to salad that Taco Bell currently offers.
If I were ordering a Power Bowl, Id opt to go with grilled chicken, and Id leave out the nacho cheese sauce and shredded cheese.
For me, cheese doesnt add a whole lot, so I dont mind leaving it out. Ill load up on salsa or pico de gallo instead .
Oh, and we obviously cant let this post end without mentioning the Cinnamon Twists. Are they the best dessert ever created? Possibly.
Its hard to beat cinnamon and sugar.

How Could Taco Bell Make Its Cheesy Roll
Almost anything or any modification would make Taco Bell’s Cheesy Roll-Up more satisfying. Even smothering it in one of the brand’s signature hot sauces would numb the pain enough to make eating three or four Roll-Ups an enjoyable and filling experience. However, one of the easiest ways to make it better would be to follow the modification recommendations on the Cheesy Roll-Up page by adding spicy potatoes, chicken, more cheese, or including nacho cheese or Mexican Pizza sauce.
We also searched Reddit for possible recommendations for how people jazz up their least favorite menu item. Some comments suggested adding different sauces like creamy jalapeño or even your own personal emergency hot sauce used when encountering bland foods in the wild. mentioned asking for the roll-ups grilled so that it gets those nice fake charr marks and prevents clumpy cheese disasters as we encountered. Or, you could unwrap it and fill it with other delicious treats like the constantly-disappearing Nacho Fries or even Cinnabon delights if the munchies are making you feel like you could compete on “Chopped.” There are really no wrong answers, unless it’s to willingly order more Roll-Ups because you love the feeling of being dissatisfied.
