How Many Carbs In Hard Cider
Sadly, many of the commercially-produced ciders contain a variety of additives, such as high fructose corn syrup.
Not surprisingly, these drinks are little more than alcopops and contain significant amounts of sugar.
The best thing to do is to look for traditional dry cider, as it is lower in sugar. This traditional ciders production uses 100% apple juice.
In summary, the carbohydrate content of cider can vary a lot.
Angry Orchard is an example of mass-produced cider, and it contains 21g sugar per 12oz bottle .
On the other hand, a more traditional cider such as Docs Draft contains 8g sugar per 12oz bottle .
Still, neither of these are low carb alcohol drinks, and they dont belong in an LCHF diet.
Hard Cider = medium to high carb
Alcohol Volume: Usually 4 8% ABV
Carbohydrate Content: Approximately 7g 30g
Why Does Keto Lower Alcohol Tolerance
To understand why you get drunk faster on keto, you need to understand how your liver works . Your liver has many functions, but the ones important for the keto and alcohol consumption include:
- Storage of extra glucose and its release when necessary
- Blood detoxification and purification, including the processing of alcohol
When you eat a diet high in carbohydrates, the liver stores plenty of glycogen. The storage and release of glycogen in the liver slows down alcohol metabolism. This is one of the reasons that eating carbs can help you feel less drunk.
BOTTOM LINE: When you are in ketosis, the liver stores very little glycogen, and this causes alcohol to be metabolized a lot faster. Therefore, the alcohol will enter your bloodstream more quickly and your alcohol tolerance will be lower.

What Is A Keto Cocktail
Keto cocktails are alcoholic beverages with a reduced carbohydrate content. Therefore, alcohol would be the easiest obstacle to overcome when creating a low-carb drink.
Did you know that there are alcohols with no carbs?
Brandy, gin, rum, tequila, vodka, and whiskey are examples of distilled spirits. Dry red and white wines, which are also low-carb beverages, are another great choice. Furthermore, sugar-free drinks are keto-friendly and would be a suitable substitute.
The sweetener, which can be found in syrups, sodas, juices, liqueurs, and even sugar, is important in most keto cocktails. Luckily, there are keto cocktails that contain sugar-free alternative ingredients.
There are 20 delicious keto-friendly drinks to help you stay in ketosis. So say goodbye to not being able to enjoy your favorite beverages. These are great to make at home, but you can also give the bartender instructions on making your favorites.
Low Calories Does Not Mean Low Carbs
Alcohol free drinks tend to have lower calories than their alcoholic comparatives purely because they exclude the alcohol. With its seven calories per gram , alcohol can make drinks high in calories. However, removing alcohol doesn’t get reflected in a reduction in carbs simply because alcohol doesn’t contain any carbs.
Non-alcoholic wines can contain some sugar due to the way they are made. They start life as traditional wine from fermented grapes then are dealcoholised to remove the alcohol. However, the dealcoholisation process can reduce the flavour and aroma so its not fermented until its a strong wine leaving a small amount of sugar.
After the wine has been through the dealcoholisation process, this residual sugar still remains in the wine, leaving a higher sugar content compared to traditional alcoholic wines. In addition, some non-alcoholic wines have sugar added back to give them a richer mouth feel.
For those wine lovers on a low carb diet, this can be a problem. The best thing to do is look for the non-alcoholic wines with the lowest carb & sugar content.

This simple drink is sparkling, sophisticated, and full of tart strawberry scrumptiousness.
The Bubly Lime Sparkly Water adds fizz and zest, and the lime and lime juice pile on even more zing.
Youll taste the strawberries, but the rum gets a bit lost under all the other potent ingredients.
Even so, this isnt your typical, sweet strawberry drink. It leans much more towards the sour side. Its still yummy, though.
Raspberry mimosas are show-stoppingly gorgeous bright red and full of delicate bubbles and fresh raspberries.
If you make them right, theyre also low-calorie and low-carb .
It takes 5 minutes to make two drinks, and all youll need are raspberries, dry champagne, raspberry tea, and sugar-free raspberry syrup.
In case you were wondering, yes, theres a strong raspberry flavor in this lovely cocktail.

Alcohol And Mixers To Avoid On A Ketogenic Diet
Most of us that are on a low-carb, ketogenic diet know that sugar is in just about everything you can find. This also applies to mixers and chasers for alcohol, as well.
- Port/Sherry. These are also known as dessert wines and include all types of port, sherry, and sauternes. They have a very high sugar alcohol, commonly averaging over 13g carbs for just a 3 oz serving. Avoid these where possible.
- Sweet Wines. Much sweeter than dry wines, these are typically enjoyed with dessert and are a bit lighter than port or sherry. These include Moscato, auslese riesling, tokaji, and malvasia wines. They typically have around 11-18g carbs per glass, so you should avoid these.
- Sangria/Margarita Mix. Typically sangria mixes and margarita mixes have over 10g carbs per 1.5 oz serving . Avoid these as much as possible.
- Wine Coolers/Alcopops. The most common of these are Smirnoff ice theyre essentially sugar-laden soda with alcohol in them. You should definitely avoid these.
- Liqueurs. Usually a combination of alcohol and a simple syrup , these are extremely high in carbohydrates. Below, youll find a full list of the most common liqueurs and their respective nutrition information.

It sounds overly simple, but one easy trick to help keep within this limit is to buy a small wine glass.
A study the Georgia Institute of Technology showed reducing plate size from 12 to 10 resulted in a 22% in calories in the portion. Why not do this with your wine glass to help reduce your carbohydrate intake.
It will reduce the chance of accidentally pouring a larger glass of wine than in tended, plus make it easier to keep track of the amount of wine youre drinking, and therefore the carbohydrates you’re consuming.
